Checking the condition of your paint, and fixing it

There are many environmental conditions that can damage the paint surface of our vehicles, especially if they are left unchecked. Its very important to remove any surface contaminants as quickly as possible, before they can damage the surface. There are abrasives such as dirt and sand; acidic and alkaline substances such as droppings from birds, and bats (what the bird or bat last ate, determines whether their "deposit" is acidic, or alkaline); road tar, bugs, berries, industrial fallout, and who knows what else ends up on the vehicle surface.

The best practice for routinely removing these various surface contaminants, is to wash the vehicle frequently, with Race Glaze® L.A.S. Wash, with its excellent cleaning qualities. Washing your vehicle regularly with L.A.S. Wash is one of the best things you can do to maintain its finish. We recommend applying a coat of Race Glaze® Polish & Sealant at least 3-4 times per year. Because of its excellent cleaning ability, it will remove most contaminants that may remain after washing. It will also polish out minor imperfections in the surface. Finally, it leaves a very durable, high gloss, slippery, protective coating. This is basically a micro-film coat of crystal clear polyethylene, which is impervious to soap & water, and will therefore last about 4-6 months on average. This coating does not penetrate or alter the paint, and is safe on all paints, as well as most other hard non-porous surfaces (chrome, glass, plastic, fiberglass, plexiglass, brass, aluminum, sealed wood, appliances, etc.).

Its very interesting to take a close up look at your paint, to see what kind of damage there is, that in many cases cannot be seen with the human eye alone. You can use a simple magnifying glass, a "printer's loupe" (a special magnifying glass used by printers to closely examine printed material), or an inexpensive portable/adjustable microscope - may be purchased in many toy stores. Take any of these devices, and closely examine some of your paint - especially areas that may seem to have lost their luster. You'll see uneven spots, craters, etc. As long as the clear coat is not gone, you can correct many problem areas by working the Polish & Sealant in very well. If after doing this, there are still areas that don't look as good as the rest, you may want to go over this surface again with Race Glaze® Leveling Compound. This is the perfect product to safely condition the surface, and remove surface imperfections, that you cannot remove with L.A.S. Wash, or Polish & Sealant. Leveling Compound is a unique product, that breaks down (gets finer) during use, acting like a compound, deep cleaner, and polish all in one. So to keep that vehicle looking great, wash it often with L.A.S. Wash, apply several coats (3-4) per year of Polish & Sealant, and use Gloss Highlighter in between, to keep the surface looking like it was just professionaly detailed.
