How To Prevent Streaks/Blushing on Black (and
other dark colors)
If you've ever experienced "streaking/blushing" when
"waxing"/"polishing"
a black vehicle (or many other dark colors), this technique will help
eliminate
your frustration - and at the same time, produce a very high shine.
Materials Required:
1) Race Glaze®
Polish & Sealant
2) Applicator for applying Polish & Sealant.
=> You can use a typical terry cloth over
foam applicator,
=> or a micro fiber over foam applicator,
=> but what I use on my Buick Grand
National,
=> is a foam "anti static detail
pad".
3) Race Glaze®
Gloss Highlighter
4) New (or very clean) micro fiber detail cloth.
=> I prefer those manufactured in Korea
5) Misting type spray bottle, filled with clean water.
6) Race Glaze®
L.A.S. Wash, bucket, sponge/wash mitt,
chamois or California®
Water Blade.
7) Race Glaze®
Leveling
Compound, terry cloth, polishing cloth.
* These are only required if you have fine
scratches,
swirl marks, or other surface
imperfections to correct.
Vehicle
should be clean. I recommend hand washing with Race Glaze®
L.A.S. Wash,
because of the excellent deep cleaning properties, and the way it rinses off
so easily - even in the sun.
If you have any fine scratches or other surface imperfections,
this is a good time to improve the surface. Race Glaze®
Leveling Compound
is a great product for removing fine scratches, and enhancing the shine,
by gently and safely polishing the surface. This product is designed
for use with a professional "body shop type of" buffer, but it also
produces excellent results when used by hand.
Apply some Leveling Compound to a clean piece of terry cloth,
rub in a lateral/back & forth motion (like sanding a piece of wood),until dry.
This normally takes about 10 seconds. Then buff the area with a clean soft cloth.
If area looks fine, move on to the Polish & Sealant - if it still needs more
work,
repeat above process - Leveling Compound is very gentle.
Mist a panel (half of hood,
fender, etc.) with a light mist of water.
=> Tip: You can also use Gloss Highlighter in place of water.
Dispense a small amount of Polish & Sealant to the applicator/detail pad,
and work it in well, in a lateral (back & forth) motion,
until it is almost dry. This cleans the surface,
while at the same time polishing it to a higher shine.
Before hand buffing the dried remaining Polish & Sealant,
mist a little Gloss Highlighter on the surface.
Now use the clean micro fiber detail cloth to hand
buff
the surface. Results are very impressive, and addicting !
The Polish & Sealant provides excellent protection,
lasting 4-6 months on average.
Think of it as a "renewable sacrificial barrier" for your paint,
that protects the surface against the environmental hazards that
can damage the clear coat.
I use this process on my 1987 Buick Grand National,
that has original paint - the depth of the shine is
very impressive - especially for 21 year old paint.
